Dyno operation is always a stressful thing for all participants. No matter how much work you do on the vehicle, the rolling road will always accurately read the horsepower you exert on the tires. Late Model Restoration recently put a 1995 Ford F-150 Lightning (with a mileage of more than 151,000 miles) on a dynamometer to understand its horsepower in 2021.

In its heyday, the Blue Oval pickup was equipped with the same 5.8-liter V8 as the Mustang Cobra in 1993, with an output of only 240 horsepower (179 kilowatts). Much like Cobra, Ford Special Vehicle Team (SVT) engineers made small changes to the motor to produce greater power and clearer throttle response; the changes were limited to things like aluminum cylinder heads and cam profiles, but It turns out to be very useful.

To our surprise, the '95 pickup produced 210 horsepower (156.6 kilowatts) in the dyno run completed in the video. If this is not impressive enough, then the pulling is done in second gear-mainly to alleviate any problems with the automatic transmission shifting-which will slightly weaken the power output.

The vehicle is equipped with a slightly improved version of the Ford E40D electronic four-speed automatic transmission. Compared with the Cobra Mustang, due to the additional torque provided, the SVT has undergone some adjustments to cope with the additional shock.

Unfortunately, because the Raptor is currently so popular, for the American automaker, lightning does not seem to happen again anytime soon. In any case, it is great to see the legacy of such an honest and powerful pickup truck continue to exist.
