The final of the Cup Series at Phoenix Raceway on Sunday will be Matt DiBenedetto's 72nd and final match on the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Mustang.

In the two years he drove the iconic No. 21 Mustang, DiBenedetto scored 6 top five places and 20 top 10 places. He led 98 laps last year, and this time 68 laps, pushing the Wood Brothers past the milestone of 25,000 laps to lead the total number of laps.

DiBenedetto scored the best points of his career last year in 13th place, and entered Sunday's game in 19th place. Before joining the Wood Brothers, he was convinced that all his points exceeded his. score.

"For me, this will be an exciting week," DiBenedetto said. "Every time I set foot on 21 cars, I am sincerely grateful.

"I have always been a fan of the sport. I am a first-generation racer. I have no financial support. If you told me as a child that I would drive 21 for the Wood Brothers one day, I would be frightened and couldn't believe it.

"It is amazing that the Wood brothers will be a lifetime family, and I am very grateful to them.

"I hope we end this year with a strong momentum."

Eddie Wood said that he and his family thank DiBenedetto for all their efforts in the past two years.

"We all thank Matt for his hard work and dedication," Wood said. "Like all drivers before him, Matt will continue to be a part of our history. Although this chapter is coming to an end, he will always be a member of the Wood Brothers racing family."

Wood also thanked the head of the crew who worked with DiBenedetto in the past two seasons.

"Jonathan Hasler and Greg Irving have served us very well in the past two years," Wood said. "With the efforts of people like Matt, Jonathan and Greg, we cannot accomplish what we have done.

"We can't overstate the support we received from sponsors Motorcraft and Quick Lane, as well as the Menards family and their suppliers that support No. 21 Mustang."

Wood also appreciated his team’s alliance with the Penske team and the contributions of Ford Performance and Roush Yates Engines.

"It's been several years," Wood said.

Unlike most of the cup series this season, practice and qualifying will take place before the start of the 312 lap NASCAR Cup series on Sunday. The practice session is scheduled for Friday at 1 pm (4 pm Eastern time). The qualifying game is scheduled to be held on Saturday at 4 pm (7 pm Eastern time), and Sunday's game will receive the green flag after 1 pm (3 pm Eastern time), and NBC will report on TV.

The 75th and 190th laps are set to rest.
