President Bhandari sends Citizenship Bill back to Parliament for reconsideration

President Bidya Devi Bhandari has sent back the Citizenship Bill to the Federal Parliament for reconsideration.

The Parliament had earlier sent the Bill to President Bhandari for authentication.

According to President’s office spokesperson Sagar Acharya, President Bhandari sent the Citizenship Bill back to Parliament on Sunday for reconsideration.

Prachanda and Dr. Bhattarai inching closer on single election symbol and manifesto agenda

CPN Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Nepal Samajwadi Party Chairman Dr. Baburam Bhattarai have inched closer to an agreement on contesting the forthcoming election under a single election symbol and manifesto.

According to a source close to Dr. Bhattarai, the leaders have intensified their election-centered talks of late.

The House of Representatives (HoR) has passed the Insurance Bill, 2079 BS.

Finance Minister Janardan Sharma presented the bill for discussion in the meeting of the HoR held on Sunday.

Following a discussion, the HoR meeting passed the Insurance Bill, 2079 BS with a majority.

Responding to the issues raised in the discussion on the bill, Finance Minister Sharma said that the Insurance Authority formed under the Insurance Bill will be made.

Stolen archeological artifacts return to Nepal

An artistic wooden strut of archeological importance built in the 14th century, which was stolen from Nepal, has returned to Nepal from the United States.

According to the Department of Archeology (DOA), the strut of archaeological importance was stolen from the main gate of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-24 Itumbahal Mahabihar approximately in 1984-1985.

Similarly, an 11th century stone statue of Shiva has also been returned and handed over to the DOA.

DAO Director General Damodar Gautam said that the statue of Shiva went missing in 1995 from Kangkeshwari temple located in KMC-19.

EC to print only 4 separate ballots for Nov 20 polls

The Election Commission (EC) has said that there will be only four separate ballots for the November 20 elections: two each under first-past-the post and proportional representation systems for electing Provincial Assembly members and House of Representatives members.

According to the Election Commission, only the election symbols of the parties that file nominations in each constituency would be kept on the ballot paper in the Provincial Assembly and House of Representatives elections.

Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya said the EC planned to print the ballot papers by keeping only the election symbols of the candidates who registered in each constituency towards first-past-the-post system.

Nepal sees 455 new coronavirus cases, two deaths in past 24 hours

Nepal recorded a total of 455 new cases of coronavirus and two deaths in the past 24 hours as of Sunday.

Of the confirmed cases, 305 were detected through the RT-PCR method and 150 through the Antigen method.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 3,165 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours.

Of them, 2,308 samples were tested through RT-PCR and 2,521 through the Antigen method.

NEPSE begins trading week with double digit loss of 27.92 points

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index has continued its downward trend and declined by 27.92 points on Sunday, starting this trading week with double digit loss.

The stock market declined by 1.37 percent and closed at 2,010.01 points today. The index had lost 18.96 points last Thursday.

The index that opened at 2,035.32 points made an intraday high of 2,043.03, an intraday low of 2,007.68 and ultimately closed at 2,010.01 point at the end of trading day today.

A total of 4,559,022 shares of 227 companies traded hands via 38,418 transactions, resulting in turnover of Rs 1.87 billion. Last trading day (Thursday)’s turnover was Rs 1.76 billion.
