Hyundai's upcoming jump Elantra retains the manual gearbox.

With electrification imminent, automatic transmissions are more efficient than ever, and the days when you do it yourself may be numbered. Well, the staff of Hyundai Elantra N are helping to keep the life of the manual gearbox a bit longer. That’s right, the upcoming Hyundai Elantra N will be equipped with a six-speed manual transmission, and if you don’t like to shift gears yourself, it will be equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Although the manual is great, this is not the only story of the upcoming Hyundai.

Powering the front wheels is a modern 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. You may have seen that this kind of engine with various decorations can help a large number of cars with modern signs to speed on the highway. In the Elantra N, the 2.0-liter engine sends 276 horsepower and 289 pound-feet of torque to the flywheel. On cars equipped with automatic devices, Hyundai will force the turbocharger into supercharged mode, allowing you to gain an additional 10 horsepower. From the gearbox to the wheels, Hyundai also sees room for improvement. The company used an integrated drive axle inspired by rally racing, integrating wheel bearings, hubs and axles-saving 3.7 pounds in the process. Hyundai claims that this engine can accelerate the new Elantra N to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds.

Although speeding up is undoubtedly important, it can be said that slowing down and steering are more important. What stops Elantra N is a set of 14.17-inch front rotors and high-friction brake pads. The company is also working to help cool these performance-focused brakes and modify the dust cover to help navigate better in the air. Controlling where you are going is the rack-mounted motor-driven power steering system, or R-MDPS for short. The steering system has undergone some corrections and torque feedback to help you better understand the road.

What helps Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires stick to the road is a set of electronically controlled dampers. These dampers take information such as speed, driver input, and road conditions to help provide the right amount of damping as needed. The suspension is still basically the same as you see on the Elantra N-Line, which means it uses a pair of MacPherson struts at the front and a multi-link suspension at the rear.

Although this is a performance-focused model, Hyundai N-Division really pays attention to the interior. The cockpit is equipped with a set of special N seats with reinforced cushions and thinner backrests, as well as a series of specific types of marked items, such as wear plates, to remind people that you have purchased the Elantra N. Hyundai also includes a special infotainment system with graphics dedicated to the N nickname interface. If you want to take this Elantra out for track days, the system has a track timer.

Elantra N sounds as exciting as its hot partner. Unfortunately, Hyundai has not announced the price or when it expects the car to arrive. We can take a look at the Veloster N priced at $33,245 for [pricing tips. Since the starting price of the basic Elantra is a bit more expensive than Veloster, we wouldn’t be surprised to see the Elantra N starts at approximately US$35,000. As for when can you put down your hard-earned money? Well, Hyundai hasn't said it yet, but we won't be shocked to see these start to hit dealers before the end of the year.

Will Hyundai N-Division rank among the beloved performance brands such as AMG or M? Please let us know in the comments below.
