Imported cooling system solutions and maintenance

Have you noticed that many European cars and SUVs no longer have the coolant replacement intervals listed in the service information? This may be because the cooling system needs to be repaired or replaced before this interval. It can be a hose, a plastic connector or a water pump. Your store has options. Some replacement parts may be better than original parts. When dealing with the complexity and longevity of today's vehicles, these parts can create a win-win situation for your store and customers.

These solutions can simplify maintenance and prevent future failures. In a 45-minute webinar sponsored by CRP Automotive, the company that brought you Rein Automotive, we will introduce six common cooling system repairs for BMW, Audi and Volkswagen. These repair solutions will cover more than 6 million cars on the road today.

Low tire pressure is the most common cause of a TPMS warning light-resetting it may require more than air.

TPMS on Subarus is a direct system. In order to properly maintain and reset these systems, it is very important for the store to invest in TPMS tools that can be connected through the OBDII port.

The most common problem seen by shops using TPMS warning lights is low tire pressure. After inflating all tires to the pressure listed on the vehicle's sign (including the spare tire), drive the vehicle at 25 mph for 10 minutes.

If the light still does not reset, please insert the store's TPMS tool into the OBDII port to check the diagnostic trouble code. There may be a problem with the control module, warning light circuit, or incorrectly registered transmitter ID.

If the TPMS light flashes, it may be that the sensor is faulty, the sensor battery is dead, the wiring harness or antenna is faulty, or the tire monitoring control module is faulty. The location of the TPMS control module varies by brand and year. If you want to replace these modules, be sure to refer to the user manual for the correct location. about:blank

The TPMS control module of some newer Subaru models is integrated with the keyless entry control module. If you must replace the control modules on these vehicles, please make sure you also perform keyless entry relearning. In addition, if the keyless entry fob does not operate normally, you may not be able to perform TPMS relearning.

Various relearning steps need to be followed, depending on the TPMS tool the store uses to reset the sensor. Some Subarus require the use of enhanced/factory scanning tools or dedicated TPMS tools.

To start the relearning process, make sure that the ignition is in the OFF position and all tires are inflated to the proper pressure. Place the special TPMS tool on the tire sidewall within 3 inches from the valve stem to read all sensor IDs. After following all the prompts, connect the TPMS tool to the OBDII port of the vehicle. Before completing the relearning, your TPMS tool may prompt you to turn the vehicle's ignition switch to the ON position.

Never assume that a sensor registration failure means it has failed. The sensitivity of the sensor depends on how it is mounted on the wheel. If the sensor does not record during static relearning, try rolling the vehicle one or two feet. This helps to position the sensor so that the brake or suspension components will not block it. Finally, when replacing any TPMS sensor, please remember to use the new TPMS service kit.
