Is Subaru the most durable car? Subaru is nowhere to be found in the 2021 iSeeCars list of cars with a maximum range of 200,000 miles or more. Among the top ten models, Toyota has six, Chevrolet has two, GMC has one, and Ford has one. What happened to the Subaru Forester and Outback?

This year iSeeCars analyzed more than 11.8 million cars sold in 2020 to determine which models have the highest percentage of 200,000 miles. Subaru Forester and Outback did not appear on any list, appearing for four consecutive years.

Subaru has always been a car manufacturer known for making cars that last longer than many other cars, but is this changing? As recently as 2016, the Japanese car manufacturer's Forester, Outback and Legacy models were ranked in the top 10 list of the most durable cars in iSeeCars.

In the 2016 iSeeCars list, Subaru Legacy ranked 6th, Outback ranked 9th, and Forester ranked 10. In 2017, Subaru Legacy ranked 6th on the list of 16 longest-lived cars, Outback ranked 7th, and Forester Ranked 8th. But that changed two years ago-there is no Subaru in the list of the top 10 most durable cars in 2018, 2019 and now in 2020.

Among the manufacturers with iSeeCars most likely to reach 200,000 miles, Subaru was ranked 7th among the 18 automakers on the list last year, and ranked in the top third of all car brands. This year, Subaru failed to enter the top seven best car manufacturers. iSeeCars did not list more than seventh car manufacturers in the 2021 ranking.

Should car buyers worry about buying Subaru cars?

The list of iSeeCars' longest lasting cars and brands is a report aimed at consumers. According to a new study by Consumer Reports in 2021, among the 26 automakers in the U.S. market, Subaru's overall score is 8th, close to the top in terms of reliability. Due to the new Ascent gearbox problem, Subaru dropped one place from the previous seventh place.

In the latest 2021 JD-powered car reliability study, Subaru has improved compared to last year. Subaru also won individual awards in the SUV category. The new Subaru Forester ranks among the top three in terms of reliability.

After declining reliability in the past few years, Subaru has prioritized improving the quality of its manufacturing plants in Japan and the United States. Subaru announced last week that they will focus on American customers and prioritize quality improvement. Subaru has made progress in reliability, but more changes are coming.

The Subaru brand has significantly improved its all-wheel drive vehicles, such as the 2021 Subaru Forester and the 2021 Subaru Outback. To understand what Subaru is doing to improve quality, check out the recent Torque news report below.
